A commercial ice machine that is installed well runs better, lasts longer, and creates fewer warranty headaches over its life. Installation done poorly is the source of premature failures we see all the time: undersized water lines, inadequate drainage, condenser airflow restrictions, ambient temperature problems. Our installation work focuses on getting the foundation right so the machine performs to spec from day one.
What Installation Includes
- Site assessment covering water supply, electrical, drainage, ambient temperature, and clearances
- Water line installation with appropriate sizing and shut-off valves
- Drain line installation with proper slope and air gap
- Electrical hookup with verified voltage and dedicated circuit where required
- Machine placement and leveling on a code-compliant surface
- Initial water filter installation
- Machine commissioning, including first ice production cycle and quality check
- Manufacturer warranty registration in your business name
- First-run training for your team on water filter changes and what to watch for
Installation Pricing
Installation pricing depends on the complexity of the site. A straightforward swap in an existing kitchen with usable water, drain, and electrical is at the low end. Pulling new water lines, drain runs, or electrical to a new location adds cost. The table below covers typical scenarios.
| Installation Scenario | Typical Cost |
|---|---|
| Standard replacement (existing connections usable) | $300 to $500 |
| Standard installation, new water and drain runs | $500 to $900 |
| Complex installation (new electrical run, condensate pump, etc.) | $900 to $1,800 |
| Multi-unit commercial installation (priced per machine) | $300 to $700 per unit |
| Remote ice maker with bin, water-cooled, or remote condenser | Quoted on site visit |

Site Requirements
Commercial ice machines have specific site requirements that affect installation cost and machine performance. We assess the following before quoting any installation.
- Water supply. Cold water line with adequate pressure (typically 20 to 80 psi) and a dedicated shut-off valve close to the machine.
- Drainage. Floor drain or stand drain with appropriate slope and air gap to prevent backflow.
- Electrical. Dedicated circuit at the correct voltage and amperage for the specific machine.
- Ambient temperature. Most machines specify an ambient range, typically 50°F to 90°F. Hot kitchen environments reduce capacity and shorten machine life.
- Clearances. Adequate space for service access and for the condenser to pull in cool air and exhaust hot air.
- Water quality. Source water hardness, chlorine levels, and sediment affect ice quality and filter intervals.
Brands We Install
We install new commercial ice machines from Hoshizaki, Manitowoc, and Scotsman. If you are still selecting a machine, we help with the sizing and platform decision based on your ice volume, kitchen layout, and budget. We do not sell other brands as part of the installation service.
Installation Timeline
Standard installation takes one full day from delivery to first ice. Complex installations with new water, drain, or electrical work can run two days. Multi-unit installations are scheduled in sequence so each machine is fully commissioned before the next. We coordinate with the manufacturer’s delivery schedule and provide a clear timeline before work begins.
Common Installation Questions
Do I need to buy the machine before scheduling installation?
We can handle the machine sourcing and installation together, which is the most common arrangement. If you already have a machine on order or in hand, we can also do installation only. Either way, we recommend a site visit before final scheduling.
How long before I can use the machine after installation?
Most commercial ice machines produce usable ice within 24 to 48 hours of commissioning. The first one or two batches are typically discarded as part of standard practice. We let you know exactly when to start using the ice during the handoff.
Does installation cover the warranty registration?
Yes. Manufacturer warranties typically require the machine to be installed by a qualified technician and registered in the business name. We handle the registration during commissioning and provide you with the warranty documentation.
